Get into Archery

Introduction

One of the many questions we get asked at the club is, “How do get into archery?” The answer is it depends on what kind of archer you want to be. You might want to shoot compound, long bow, crossbow or recurve, you might want to shoot field or target archery.

At Marshland Archers, we teach and shoot target archery using recurve bows, no matter if you want to be a casual or a competitive archer. This guide outlines the typical process you would expect to follow from beginner to competent archer.

Training

First you need to complete a course with a minimum of 12 hours’ tuition, usually spread over 4 weeks at our The Paddock Middle Drove, Marshland St. James Wisbech PE14 8JW or Alive Downham Leisure, Bexwell Road, Downham Market Norfolk PE38 9LL venue. All kit is provided and once completed, you will receive our official certificate of competence.

Once you have completed your course, you will be expected to purchase your first bow set-up. This doesn’t have to be expensive and we recommend you stick to purchasing a bow similar to your training kit.

  • 6 x Aluminium Arrows
  • 1 x Basic Bracer + 1 x Leather Glove or Finger Tab
  • 1 x Bow Stringer
  • 1 x Quiver
  • 1 x Midi Aluminium Extension Sight
  • 1 x Basic Bow Case
